Quality Improvement Through Human Centered Design
Our offering marries quality improvement fundamentals and Human-Centered Design (Design Thinking). Design Thinking helps manage complexity and bring multiple perspectives to the table. It enables deep conversations around past failures and provides a platform for clinicians and frontline staff to share their perspectives.
We believe that healthcare, especially quality improvement professionals, could supercharge their improvement efforts by integrating Design Thinking approaches. Through this course we will teach you the foundational components of quality improvement, through the Model for Improvement, and we will do so using Design Thinking tools and visual canvases. Ultimately, design tools help people focus, align, and nurture creativity. Combining these with a clear improvement plan allows for meaningful change and more effective systems.
By the end of this course you will be armed with the knowledge and tools to drive improvement in your organization through Design Thinking.
QIST Goals
QIST aims to achieve the three goals outlined below for every learner:
The MFI is largely considered to be the foundational basis for all major improvement methodologies that work to enhance outcomes in the healthcare space. With operational knowledge of the MFI you will be equipped to start applying these skills to the problems in your organization.
Throughout this course we will practice Human Centered Design principles and challenge you to apply the concepts you are learning in real-time to the problems in front of you at your organization. You will be given a toolkit of visual canvases which will enable you to apply this learning as you progress through the course.
By the close of this course you will have a completed Project Charter form. This form serves as your executive one-pager, teeing up what your aim is, how you will measure it and how you will get there. This form and the visual canvases you will receive throughout the course will all be available for download so you can apply them to multiple projects within your organization.
